ASSAULT INVESTIGATION LEADS TO FIREARM RECOVERY

On October 22, 2021 at approximately 1:17 a.m. the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) was flagged down by a concerned citizen regarding a subject retrieving a handgun to retaliate following an assault.  A description was given and KDPS Officers converged on the area and contacted the subject.  The male, a 22 yr old Benton Harbor resident, was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon.  During the investigation a second subject was identified and contacted as being involved in the weapons offense.  This person, a 21 yr old Benton Harbor resident, resisted and obstructed Officers and was arrested.  Both individuals were lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail for their respective offenses.

KDPS offers its gratitude to the concerned citizen for notifying officers of the dangerous subject.  The incident highlights that teamwork between citizens and law enforcement produces results in combating violence in the community.

Anyone having information regarding this incident or other crimes of violence are asked to contact the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety at (269) 488-8911 or Silent Observer at (269) 343-2100
