On October 20, 2021 at approximately 8:16 p.m. officers from the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety were conducting proactive patrols regarding citizen complaints of gun violence in the 100 block of W Stockbridge Ave. A traffic stop was initiated and the driver of the vehicle, a 19-year-old Kalamazoo resident, fled in his vehicle from Police at a high rate of speed.

KDPS Officers saturated the area to find the suspect vehicle which was located near Washington Ave and Race Street.  The vehicle was found unoccupied and KDPS K9 Ozzy was used in an effort to locate the suspect. During the track K9 Ozzy located a loaded handgun with an extended magazine as well as additional evidence.

The driver was not located, however has been identified and criminal charges are being submitted against him to include but not limited to Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Fleeing & Eluding and other weapons offenses.

Anyone having information regarding this incident or other crimes of violence are asked to contact the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety at (269) 488-8911 or Silent Observer at (269) 343-2100
