PRESS RELEASE

Large Crowds

Kalamazoo, MI:

On the night of August 20th 2021 and extending into the early hours of August 21st, Kalamazoo Public Safety addressed issues centered around mobile nuisance parties.  The initial crowd complaint took place in the 500 block of Ada St but progressed as the night continued.  The area of Ada/Woodbury and Florence/Burrell was saturated with vehicles a people dancing on top of cars, blocking roadways, and fighting.  During this time Public Safety started to impound vehicles that were participating in the mobile nuisance party AND impeding traffic, but only after numerous verbal warnings were given over the loud speaker for the crowds and vehicles to disperse peacefully.

During KDPS attempts to restore peace, a glass bottle was thrown at officers, striking the windshield of a patrol vehicle.  In a separate incident, a person fought with officers during an arrest.  Thankfully, no one was injured during either incident.

Kalamazoo Public Safety would encourage people to review Article III of the city ordinances, chapter 21-25, 26, 27, 28.  We would also ask everyone to help us keeping gatherings safe, peaceful, and beneficial for everyone.
