Multiple shots fired into occupied home.

Kalamazoo, MI:

On August 19th, 2021, at approximately 12:36 A.M., Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officers responded to the 800 block of Hawley St after receiving several reports of shots fired. First arriving officers made contact with a male, who was found to be in possession of an AR style rifle, a handgun, and several types of illegal narcotics. The suspect, a 17 year old male from Kalamazoo, was arrested for several weapon and drug offenses, although it is not believed that he was the person who fired the gunshots.

During the course of the investigation, Public Safety officers determined that an unknown suspect had intentionally fired several gunshots into an occupied house nearby. Fortunately, nobody was injured during the incident, despite the fact that the house was occupied by seven people, including four children ages 10 and under.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety at 337-8120 or Silent Observer at 343-2100
