Vehicle Struck by Gunfire, Suspect in Custody

Kalamazoo, MI:

On August 7th, 2021 at approximately 06:28 a.m. the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety responded to the 3800 blk of Sprinkle Rd for a report of shots being fired in the parking lot at a local business. Officers arrived and located a vehicle that had been hit by gunfire while it was occupied by two people. Thankfully, no citizens were injured in this incident.

As officers investigated, it was found that there was no relationship between the victim/s and suspect/s. During the investigation, Officers were alerted to a vehicle that was blocking traffic on I94. Officers made contact with the driver who was on foot away from the car and found that the abandoned vehicle was stolen. Officers detained the driver and found that he was in possession of a loaded firearm.

After reviewing video and interviewing witnesses it was found that the suspect in the stolen vehicle was the same suspect involved in the shooting.

The 22-year-old Kalamazoo man was arrested for multiple weapons charges, assault charges, and possession of a stolen handgun and automobile.

Anyone having information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety at (269) 488-8911 or Silent Observer at (269) 343-2100
