PRESS RELEASE
Pursuit of 2 stolen vehicles
Kalamazoo, MI:
On July 20th at approximately 4:00AM a Kalamazoo Public Safety Sergeant observed a stolen vehicle near Westnedge Ave and Whites Rd. The stolen vehicle, a maroon SUV, appeared to be following another passenger car, an unreported stolen vehicle, directly in front of it. Upon activation of emergency lights both vehicles fled north on Westnedge Ave. Recognizing that the time of day placed a low risk of danger to the public, a pursuit was initiated.
Both vehicles continued north until the passenger car crashed at the south west corner of Bronson Park with four people fleeing from the vehicle. Officers checked the vehicle for injuries and chased 2 of the occupants on foot capturing them without further incident.
The stolen SUV and pursuit continued with the use of stop sticks that successfully compromised the tires. The pursuit terminated in the 2500 block of Saint Albans Way where the vehicle was abandoned and continued to roll at a slow speed, striking a parked vehicle causing minor damage. A foot pursuit resulted in the capture of the driver of the stolen SUV and a K9 track located and captured the passenger who was in possession of one of the keys of the stolen passenger car.
Kalamazoo Public Safety arrested 4 of the 6 suspects. There are NO reported injuries from any of the parties involved in the incident.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Kalamazoo Public Safety at (269)337-8139 or Silent Observer at (269)343-2100 or www.kalamazoosilentobserver.com.
