Woman Convicted in Fatal 2023 Traffic Crash

A Grand Rapids woman was found guilty this week in connection with a 2023 fatal car crash that killed one person and severely injured another.

On Jan. 27, 2026, a jury convicted Nyra Antinique Whitelow, 24, of second-degree murder and reckless driving causing serious impairment. Her sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 23, 2026, before Judge Bridenstine.

KVET and CRT Investigation Results in Arrest

On January 15th, 2026, members of the Kalamazoo Valley Enforcement Team (KVET) and Crime Reduction Team (CRT) executed a search warrant in the 1300 block of Foxridge Drive following an investigation into illegal drug sales and weapon possession.

KDPS Investigating Fatal Shooting on Reed Avenue

Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 100 block of Reed Avenue late Sunday night.

At approximately 10 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25, 2026, a caller reported hearing gunfire and indicated that a person had been shot in the area. The first responding officer located a 31-year-old man on the sidewalk with an apparent gunshot wound to the upper back.
