3 Separate Shooting Investigations

May 23, 2021 by Gretchen Mayo

Kalamazoo, Michigan:  On Saturday, May 22, 2021, at approximately 9:21p.m. Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers responded to the area of E Main and Edwin regarding a subject being shot. The victim, a 30 y/o Kalamazoo resident, was transported to a local hospital. He is listed in stable condition. There is no suspect information currently.

While officers were investigating the shooting, a crowd of nearly 400 people gathered in the 500 blk of Mable Street. Officers spent approximately 4 hours addressing the crowds blocking the street; liquor violations; fights; and shots fired calls.

At around 1157 p.m., it was learned that there may be a female subject shot in the area of Norway/Westnedge. Officers checked the area and did not find any shooting victims but did locate a scene at Westnedge and Elizabeth. While officers were collecting evidence, two 19 year old females showed up at a local hospital with non-life-threatening gun shot wounds. One of the victims was treated and released and the other is in stable condition. There is no suspect information at this time.

While investigating the above shooting at around 1249 a.m., a fourth subject called 911 about being shot in the 1800 block of VanZee. The 21 y/o Kalamazoo resident advised he was walking in the area when he heard a gunshot ring out; he was struck in the arm. He was treated and released. There is no suspect information at this time.

Anyone having information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety at 337-8139 or Silent Observer at 343-2100.
