Residential Porch Fire

Kalamazoo, MI:
On Tuesday, April 13, 2021 around 10 pm, Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety Officers responded to the 400 Block of W. Walnut Street regarding a porch fire. Arriving officers moved swiftly to address not only the active fire at the porch, but evacuation of residents still interior. Four total residents were assisted out of the home through search and rescue efforts. An 80-year-old resident was located inside the residence and transported to a local hospital for smoke inhalation. She is in stable condition.
Kalamazoo Public Safety officers made immediate efforts to extinguish the blaze and within minutes of fire suppression efforts and interior overhaul the fire was snuffed out. The Fire Marshall responded for further investigation and the cause is still being determined.
