Kalamazoo, Michigan:

On Tuesday, February 23, 2021 officers from Kalamazoo Public Safety responded to the 1200 block of Washington Street due to numerous calls of gunfire in the area.  Responding officers were provided information from an alert citizen who observed several subjects running towards a vehicle immediately after the gunfire was heard.

Officers approached the area and observed a vehicle that had lost control on the icy roadway and struck a snowbank and a tree. Several of the vehicle occupants attempted to leave the area immediately after observing officers.   Two occupants were immediately detained and a third fled on foot.

Officers pursued the fleeing occupant and apprehended him after a brief foot chase.  During the foot pursuit, the subject discarded a firearm in a snowbank.   This individual was arrested on charges of resisting and obstructing as well as several weapons violations.  He was lodged at the Kalamazoo County Juvenile home.  Additional drug and ordinance violation charges are being requested against the other involved parties.

No injuries were reported as a result of this incident.

Anyone having information regarding this incident or any other incidents involving gun violence is asked to contact the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety at 337-8139 or Silent Observer at 343-2100.
