Fire at Encampment
Kalamazoo, MI:
On Sunday, January 24th, 2021 at approximately 6:32 P.M., Officers from the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety responded to 74 Mills St for a report of a tent on fire and propane tanks exploding. When KDPS Officers arrived, flames were observed coming from the encampment site.
KDPS Officers entered the encampment area and were able to bring the fire under control within 10 minutes. Officers remained on scene for over an hour. One person reported minor injuries and they were treated and released by a local ambulance service. Three people were taken to a local hotel for the night as their property had significant damage.
The cause of the fire is not yet known and is under investigation by the Fire Marshal’s office.
