PRESS RELEASE

Kalamazoo, MI

Firearm Recovered During Traffic Stop

On December 29, 2020, a Kalamazoo Public Safety Officer observed a vehicle slowly following a female walking on S Westnedge Ave near Forest St.  The officer stopped to investigate, and while doing so, observed a traffic violation and stopped the vehicle.  The driver became uncooperative during the stop and refused to exit the vehicle.  An empty handgun holster was observed on the driver’s hip.

As the driver was removed from the vehicle, he resisted officers and was quickly detained.  A search of the vehicle located a handgun with a loaded high-capacity magazine directly under the driver’s seat.

The suspect, a 21 year old Kalamazoo resident, was arrested for multiple felony charges and was lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail awaiting arraignment.

Anyone having information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety at 337-8994 or Silent Observer at 343-2100

Sgt. Brian Reidenbach
