SHOT FIRED DURING CAR JACKING

Kalamazoo, MI

On 11/30/2020, around 11:00 pm, a Kalamazoo Public Safety Officer heard a gunshot and glass breaking in the 900 block of N Westnedge Ave. A short time later, a victim called 911 to report that a vehicle had been taken at gunpoint.  During the investigation it was learned that the victim had been sitting in a vehicle when the suspect, described as a black male wearing a red hoodie with a black face mask, approached the vehicle and threatened to shoot him.  One shot was reported to be fired into the vehicle.  The victim exited the vehicle and the suspect stole the vehicle and fled the area.

Officers located the victims’ vehicle a short time later and a KDPS K9 was used to attempt to locate the suspect.  The suspect was not known to the victim and was not located during the K9 track. Luckily, the victim in this incident was uninjured.

Anyone having information regarding this incident, or any other crimes in Kalamazoo, is encouraged to contact the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety at 337-8120 or Silent Observer at 343-2100
