Reckless discharge of a firearm causes two vehicles to crash

Kalamazoo, MI:

On 11-28-2020 at approximately 7:40 PM, Kalamazoo Dept. of Public Safety Officers responded to the 500 blk of E. Kalamazoo for a report of shots being fired from a vehicle. Additionally, Officers were informed that two vehicles had collided, and one person had sustained injuries.

Upon arrival, Officers found two vehicles off the roadway with significant damage. While interviewing the involved parties it was learned the one of the vehicles swerved to avoid being hit by gun fire and crashed into another vehicle traveling west on E. Kalamazoo Ave. Neither of the vehicles involved in the accident were involved with the shooting. A local business that was occupied was also damaged from gunfire, luckily no occupants were injured. One passenger involved in the crash sustained injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Witnesses state that occupants of a large black SUV were firing a weapon.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the Operations Division at (269) 337-8142 or Silent Observer at (269) 343-2100.
