Date: Monday, November 9, 2020

Address:  150 E. Crosstown Pkwy. Suite A, Kalamazoo, MI 49001

Contact:  Captain Craig Habel, Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety 337-8139

Kalamazoo, Michigan:

On Monday, November 9, 2020 at approximately 5:45 p.m., Officers with the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety were dispatched to the 400 block of South Rose Street regarding the report of gunfire.  Officers converged on the area as witnesses gave out descriptions of multiple vehicles involved.

A responding officer located one of the described vehicles fleeing the area.  The vehicle was stopped, and the sole occupant was contacted.  The occupant appeared to be suffering from a graze type gunshot wound.

The investigating officer observed a firearm in the vehicle upon their approach and detained the occupant.  Upon further investigation it was discovered that the firearm and the car where both stolen.

Paramedics were called to the scene to provide medical attention.  The subject was transported to a local hospital for additional treatment.  The injuries sustained appear non-life threatening.

The suspect, a twenty-four-year-old Kalamazoo resident was ultimately lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail on several weapons charges and receiving and concealing a stolen automobile.

It is believed that several other involved subjects are currently outstanding.  Anyone having information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety at (269) 488-8911 or Silent Observer at (269) 343-2100.

No further information is currently available.
