Arrest Made After Armed Robberies at Local Businesses

October 14, 2020 by Charles Treppa

Date: Wednesday, October 14, 2020

Address:  150 E. Crosstown Pkwy. Suite A, Kalamazoo, MI 49001

Contact:  Captain Craig Habel, Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety 337-8139

Kalamazoo, MI:

On Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at approximately 1:30 am, officers with the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety responded to the report of an armed robbery at a local business in the 3700 block of Sprinkle Road.

Arriving officers made contact with an employee who reported that a suspect entered the store, brandished a weapon and demanded money and merchandise from staff.  The suspect then fled the area in a vehicle.

Within minutes of Public Safety’s response to the above call, deputies with the Kalamazoo Country Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to investigate a second report of an armed robbery at a business within their jurisdiction.  The description of both the suspect and vehicle involved appeared to be the same.

Deputies and Officers flooded this area and located the suspect vehicle.  A traffic stop was attempted; however, the vehicle fled.  Officers pursued the vehicle for approximately eleven miles.  This pursuit ended when the suspect vehicle crashed into an unoccupied parked vehicle in the 700 block of Hawley Street and the sole occupant was arrested.  Fortunately, no one was injured.

The suspect in this matter was arrested and lodged at the Kalamazoo Country Sheriff’s Department Jail where they await arraignment on charges of fleeing and eluding and armed robbery.

Anyone having any information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety at 488-8911 or Silent Observer at 343-2100 / kalamazoosilentobserver.com.
