Kalamazoo, MI:
On Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at approximately 11:50 pm, Officers with the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety were dispatched to the 1800 block of E Main Street regarding the report of a man with a gun.
Officers arrived in the area and contacted a victim who had fled a home in the area. This individual advised police that they became involved in an altercation with a known person. The altercation was reported to have escalated and the suspect produced a firearm then fired it at the victim.
Officers responded to the home and secured it while applying for a search warrant. During this time, it was established that the suspect was still present in the home. The Kalamazoo Metro SWAT team and Crisis Negotiations team were called to assist. Several telephone contacts were made with the suspect who refused to exit the home.
After an approximate 6-hour standoff entry was made into the home and the suspect was arrested without further incident.
The suspect, a 37-year-old Kalamazoo resident was transported to the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Department Jail where he was lodged and is awaiting arraignment on several weapons and assault charges.
