Shots fired at Burdick / Maple, no injuries reported

August 16, 2020 by Scott Smith

Kalamazoo, MI:

On August 16th, 2020 at approximately 2:15 pm, Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety Officers responded to the intersection of S Burdick / Maple regarding a report of several shots fired. Several witnesses reported that two suspects had fired handguns at a house near the intersection. The suspects then left in two separate vehicles. Officers flooded the area in search of the suspect vehicles, but they were not located. The house that is believed to have been the target of the shooting had already been struck by gunfire less than one month ago. Nobody was injured during today’s incident.

One of the suspect vehicles was described as a silver Chrysler 300. The other was described as a red Dodge Charger with black racing stripes on the hood. As of this time, the suspects have not been identified, and the motive for the shooting is unknown.

Although nobody was injured, this shooting is particularly troubling, as a woman and three children were across the street selling candy near the sidewalk when the incident occurred. Several other vehicles and pedestrians were also in the area and witnessed the shooting.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety at 337-8120 or Silent Observer at 343-2100
