June 25, 2020 by Charles Treppa

Date: June 24, 2020

Address:  150 E. Crosstown Pkwy. Suite A, Kalamazoo, MI 49001

Contact:  Captain Craig Habel, Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety 337-8139

On Wednesday June 24, 2020 at approximately 9:00 pm, Officers with the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety were dispatched to the report of gunshots in the 1200 block of Ogden Avenue.  Officers arrived in the area and located two victims who were struck by gunfire.

Witnesses reported to responding Officers that the shots being fired were the result of two automobiles driving in the area engaging in a “rolling gun battle”.

Gunfire exchanged during this incident struck two children, a five-year-old and a twelve-year-old.  These children were not involved and were merely playing on a nearby sidewalk.

Responding Officers rendered medical aid to the victims.  One of the children was transported by ambulance to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The second child did not require hospitalization.

The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety is continuing to investigate this incident.

Anyone having information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety at 337-8139 or Silent Observer at 343-2100.
