Attempted Kidnapping and Home Invasion

June 11, 2020 by Matt Schemenauer

On Thursday June 11th, 2020, officers from the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety were dispatched to the 1800 block of Humphrey St in reference to a report of a fight. Officers arrived and observed a struggle between two subjects over an infant. Officers quickly broke up the fight and checked on the infant.

During the investigation, it was discovered that a 53-year-old Kalamazoo woman forced her way into a home in the 1800 block of Humphrey St. Once inside, the suspect assaulted a female and grabbed a small infant. The suspect then took the infant and walked out of the house to abduct the child. The mother of the child attempted to stop the suspect and a struggle over the child ensued. During the struggle, the suspect assaulted the mother several times. The infant was not injured during this incident and was returned to the mother.

The suspect was arrested for Kidnapping and Home Invasion. This case will be forwarded to the Kalamazoo County Prosecutors Office for review.

Anyone having information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety at 488-8911 or Silent Observer at 343-2100.
