Traffic Stop Leads to Seizure of Drugs and Firearm

May 23, 2020 by Michael Skurski

Kalamazoo, MI: On May 22, 2020, at approximately 8:40 pm, Kalamazoo Public Safety officers conducted a traffic stop in the 5300-block of Portage St. for a civil infraction. Upon contacting the vehicle occupants, an odor of marijuana was detected, and the occupants appeared unusually nervous. When the occupants were asked to exit the vehicle, a passenger informed officers he had a firearm. The firearm was recovered, and the vehicle was searched. In addition to the loaded firearm, over two hundred ecstasy pills were seized.

As a result of this investigation, a 26-year-old Kalamazoo resident was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon, felony firearm, and possession with intent to deliver ecstasy.

Anyone having information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety at 269-488-8911 or Silent Observer at 269-343-2100.
