HELP US, HELP THE COMMUNITY STAY HEALTHY

March 12, 2020 by Scott Smith

The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety wants to remind everyone that the health and safety of our residents and visitors in our city is our main priority. Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, the community finds itself in the position to limit large gatherings. Limiting contacts will help slow the spread of the disease, which can be deadly to vulnerable populations.

If you are planning on attending any large St. Patty’s Day events, we strongly encourage you to stay home to limit the spread of COVID-19 and risk of your exposure.

Additionally, large gatherings, as we have seen in previous St. Patty’s celebrations, require a large contingent of Public Safety Officers and First Responders. These First Responders are crucial to the safety of the community and we want to limit their exposure also.

Things to know about COVID-19 :
Close contact increases your risk for COVID-19, including:
1- Being within approx. 6 feet of an individual with COVID-19 for a prolonged period of time.
2- Having direct contact with body fluids from an individual with COVID-19.
How to protect yourself from exposure:
1- Maintain a distance of at least 6 feet
2- Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
3- Do not touch your face without first washing your hands
