At 7:54 a.m. on Thursday, January 30, 2020, a Public Safety Officer witnessed a two-vehicle head-on crash at the intersection of Portage St / E Cork St. The officer quickly requested additional resources, and began rendering aid to the vehicle occupants. Responding officers had to extricate the driver of one of the vehicles using hydraulic tools (the “jaws of life”). Four patients were evaluated by Life EMS, and one was transported to Bronson with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Traffic at the intersection was restricted for approximately two-and-a-half hours while crash reconstructionists from the Kalamazoo Forensic Crime Lab investigated the incident.
