KDPS battles Milwood house fire

January 19, 2020 by Kalamazoo Public Safety

At 12:44 p.m. on Sunday, January 19, 2020, Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers responded to the 1500-block of Roseland Ave in the Milwood Neighborhood on a report of a kitchen fire. The first arriving officers found heavy smoke coming from the house, and visible flames on the first floor. Though the residents were able to escape with their dog, they notified officers that their cat was still inside.

Officers initiated fire suppression efforts, and the fire was extinguished within 20 minutes. During the fire attack, a search team located and rescued the panicked cat. The very vocal feline was treated by paramedics on scene prior to being turned over to its owners.

One of the residents was transported to Bronson Hospital for treatment for possible smoke inhalation. No officers were injured during this incident.

The Fire Marshal’s Office is currently investigating the cause of this fire.

Anyone having information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety at (269) 488-8911, Silent Observer at (269) 343-2100, or report online at www.kalamazoosilentobserver.com.
