Suspect arrested after robbing victim trying to buy a cell phone

January 18, 2020 by Kalamazoo Public Safety

Kalamazoo, MI:
On 01/17/2020 at approximately 7:00pm, Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) officers responded to an apartment complex located in the 1300 Blk of Fox Ridge Dr. regarding a subject robbed while trying to buy a cell phone. The victim had made arrangements with the suspect to purchase a cell phone through social media. The victim met with the suspect and instead of selling the phone, the suspect displayed a handgun and stole the victim’s money.

KDPS officers investigated and were able to identify a suspect. The investigation led officers to an apartment located within the complex where the suspect was located and arrested. A search of the apartment was conducted and evidence of the crime was located.

The suspect, a 28 year old Kalamazoo resident, was arrested for Armed Robbery and lodged at Kalamazoo County Jail.

KDPS reminds individuals when buying/selling items online to conduct transactions in a safe public well-lit location.

Public Safety is requesting anyone with information about this crime to contact the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety at 488-8911, the Criminal Investigation Division at 337-8139, or Silent Observer at 343-2100.
Authority of Lt. Scott VanderEnde
