Stolen Vehicle Crash

January 10, 2020 by Kalamazoo Public Safety

Kalamazoo, MI:
On January 10th 2020 around 6:30pm a Kalamazoo resident called to report their vehicle stolen from the 4000 blk of Debbie Lane. A responding Public Safety Officer observed the vehicle traveling east bound on Stadium Drive approaching Howard St. As the officer turned around, and prior to activating their emergency lights, the suspect vehicle sped up and disregarded the red light on Stadium Dr. The suspect vehicle was struck by a car that was traveling north on Howard St and had the right-of-way. The two occupants of the stolen vehicle then fled on foot as the Public Safety Officer checked on the other injured driver.

Responding officers were immediately able to flood the area and located the two suspects on foot in the 2000blk of Howard St. The two juvenile suspects were taken into custody without further incident. The driver of other involved vehicle suffered minor injuries and was released from the scene.

The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety reminds you not to leave your vehicle running unattended; the majority of vehicles that are stolen in Kalamazoo are taken while the keys are in the vehicle.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Kalamazoo Public Safety at (269)488-8911 or Silent Observer at (269)343-2100 or www.kalamazoosilentobserver.com.
