Larcenies from Vehicles

January 7, 2020 by Scott VanderEnde

Kalamazoo, MI

On January 7, 2020, at approximately 12:21a.m., the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) responded to the 1500 block of Kickapoo Ct for a report of several subjects breaking into vehicles. As officers responded to the area, several subjects fitting the description given by the reportee were located and subsequently fled on foot. KDPS Officers flooded the area and apprehended five juveniles believed to be involved in the larcenies from vehicles. One of the juveniles apprehended was involved in the theft of a vehicle earlier in the night.

Officers recovered suspected stolen property during the investigation and are attempting to locate the victims involved. KDPS believes that there are additional victims that have not been identified yet and request that anyone who suspects their vehicle was broken into in the area of Kickapoo Ct to contact KDPS.

As a result of this investigation, two juveniles were taken into custody and lodged at the Kalamazoo County Juvenile Home. The other three juveniles were released to guardians.

The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety would like to remind citizens to lock their vehicles and not to leave valuables unattended inside.

Anyone having information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety at 488-8911 or Silent Observer at 343-2100
