Kalamazoo, Michigan:
On December 9, at approximately 6:20 p.m., Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) officers were dispatched to the 400 block of Oak St. regarding a possible structure fire. When public safety officers arrived, there was smoke visible from the doorway of the residence.
The occupants of the residence including two adults and several children had self-evacuated immediately after the fire had formed. KDPS firefighters entered the residence and encountered fire within a room on the first floor. The fire was quickly extinguished and contained to a single room of the residence.
The family was provided information for the Red Cross to assist with any needs. The circumstances surrounding this fire are believed to be cooking related.
