December 5, 2019 by Scott VanderEnde

Kalamazoo, MI:

On Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at approximately 4:30 pm a Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officer was flagged down in the 500 block of N Burdick St for the report of an armed robbery of a cell phone. Officers responded to the area and located a subject matching the suspect description. The subject fled upon sight of officers, but was apprehended. The 14 year old Kalamazoo resident was in possession of the firearm, which turned out to be a “BB” gun that was not distinguishable from a real firearm. The cell phone was not recovered at this time.

KDPS Officers continued to investigate and identified a second suspect also a juvenile. This suspect, a 15 year old Kalamazoo resident was found inside a residence in the 1500 block of Krom St. The suspect attempted to escape arrest from a second story window; however he was apprehended after resisting officers. The stolen cell phone was also recovered inside the residence and returned to the owner.

Both juvenile males were lodged at the Kalamazoo County Juvenile Home pending charges related to the Armed Robbery and Resisting/Obstructing.
