Kalamazoo, MI:
Around 9:50PM on October 25th 2019, Public Safety Officers responded to 2200 Blk of S Burdick St. for the report of smoke coming from the eaves of the residence. The first responding officers found heavy smoke coming from all sides of the residence and could see flames through the second floor windows. An interior fire attack was commenced; however the fire breached the roof moments after officers entered. Officers did not locate anyone inside the residence and due to the heavy fire conditions coupled with structural failures on the second floor and roof; officers were forced to exit and take a defensive stance.
Officers prevented damage to neighboring houses and after greatly improving fire conditions inside the residence, officers were able to re-enter the second floor and extinguish the remainder of the fire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Fire Marshall’s Office.
