Kalamazoo, MI: On October 23, 2019 at 8:40 am, detectives and Public Safety Officers were in the 3000 block of S Burdick St attempting to locate and arrest a known parole absconder who is a suspect in a recent investigation. Detectives also received information that the subject may be armed with a firearm. Detectives observed the suspect in the area however the suspect was able to enter a residence prior to officers making contact. Contact was made with a female at the residence who lied to officers about the suspect whereabouts and refused to cooperate with officers.
Due to the suspect’s violent past and the information that he may be armed with a firearm, the home was surrounded and the Kalamazoo Metro SWAT team was called to the scene to assist with taking the suspect into custody. For over one hour the suspect refused to comply with announcements to exit the residence. At approximately 10:30 am, a KDPS negotiator was able to make contact with the suspect and convince him to exit the residence and surrender to officers peacefully. The 20 year old Kalamazoo man was questioned by detectives and lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail for his parole absconder warrant.
