Felonious Assault / Nearby school placed on lockdown

September 19, 2019 by Kalamazoo Public Safety

Kalamazoo, MI:
On September 19, 2019 at approximately 9:00 am Kalamazoo Public Safety was made aware of a domestic disturbance in the 1000 block of W. North St. The caller mentioned a weapon and disconnected. Officers responded to that area and placed a nearby school on lockdown until the situation was completely understood and the scene was made safe. Officers were able to make contact with the caller and a suspect which led to one person being placed under arrest for multiple offences. He is currently being held at the Kalamazoo County Jail without bond until his arraignment.

School security was made aware of the situation and contact between them and KDPS was maintained throughout the incident. At no time was any school, their property, staff, or students involved or in any danger. The reason for the lockdown was solely due to the close proximity to the incident.

If anyone has information concerning this incident they are asked to contact their local police department, Kalamazoo Public Safety at (269) 337-8994, or Silent Observer at (269)343-2100 or www.kalamazoosilentobserver.com.
