700 W Lovell Fire

September 3, 2019 by Kalamazoo Public Safety

700 W. Lovell House Fire

Kalamazoo, Michigan:

On September 23, 2019, at approximately 10:29 a.m., Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) officers were dispatched to the 700 Block of W. Lovell regarding a multiple occupancy residential structure fire where smoke was visible from the windows of a second floor apartment.

Kalamazoo Public Safety officers responded to the address and were informed that several of the occupants for neighboring apartments had not evacuated and may be unaware of the fire. Officers made entry to the structure and quickly evacuated the other residents, including several subjects with limited mobility. Officers simultaneously entered the affected apartment and controlled the room and contents fire within minutes.  The fire was contained to one room of a single apartment but caused moderate smoke damage to surrounding rooms.

No civilians or firefighters were injured in this incident.

The resident of one apartment was displaced by the fire but was placed in contact with the Red Cross for assistance. The fire cause is under investigation by the Fire Marshal.

Anyone having information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety at 337-8139 or Silent Observer at 343-2100.
