Residential House Fire

August 18, 2019 by Scott Smith

Kalamazoo, MI:
On Sunday August 18, 2019 at approximately 02:43 am, the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety responded to the 1500 block of N. Church for a report of a house on fire.

Public Safety Officers arrived on scene within minutes of the call and encountered heavy smoke conditions and onlookers reporting that a female may still be in house. Immediate search and rescue was initiated and the fire was observed in the basement. A second alarm was struck for additional manpower due to officers busy with calls for service citywide. A short time later, officers were advised that the female was not in the house. Fire attack teams were sent to the basement and quickly extinguished the fire. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Fire Marshall’s office.

Public Safety is requesting anyone with information about this crime to contact the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety at 488-8911, the Criminal Investigation Division at 337-8139, or Silent Observer at 343-2100.
