Woman shot in domestic violence incident; suspect arrested

July 24, 2019 by Matt Schemenauer

At approximately 11:18 p.m. on July 23, 2019, a woman walked into Bronson ER with a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the arm. She was accompanied at the hospital by a male. The victim and her companion stated that she had been shot by an unknown person while they were walking on N Westnedge Ave. Officers quickly determined that the shooting did not occur on the street, but rather inside a house in the 400-block of W Frank St.

Once officers arrived at the Frank St house, they located several witnesses, evidence of the shooting as well as the firearm used in the shooting. Officers determined that this was an incident of domestic violence, and the suspect was identified as the man who had accompanied the victim to the hospital. The suspect was taken into custody without incident. During his arrest, officers located a delivery amount of methamphetamine on his person.

The suspect, a 53-year old Kalamazoo resident, was lodged at Kalamazoo County Jail on numerous charges, including domestic assault, 3rd offense, assault with intent to do great bodily harm, felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a stolen firearm, and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

Anyone having information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety at 488-8911 or Silent Observer at 343-2100

By authority of:  Sgt. Chuck Mason
