At approximately 6:50 p.m. on July 14, 2019, KDPS responded to an armed robbery at a business in the 2900-block of Stadium Dr. Employees reported that a male came into the business and threatened them with a handgun and demanded money. The suspect grabbed money from the register, then fled on foot. Officers flooded the area, including PSO Dumond, who launched K9 Axl and began to track the suspect.
As the K9 track was ongoing, officers reviewed the camera footage and were able to identify the suspect. At that moment, unfortunately for the suspect, an officer happened to be parked directly in front of his nearby residence, and when he stepped out onto his front lawn, the officer took him into custody without incident.
The stolen money was recovered from the suspect’s pockets, and the weapon used, a realistic Airsoft replica handgun, was located nearby.
The suspect, a 65 year-old Kalamazoo resident, was lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail for armed robbery and outstanding warrants.
Anyone having information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety at 488-8911 or Silent Observer at 343-2100
