Kalamazoo, MI:
On June 22, 2019, Kalamazoo Public Safety’s Crime Reduction Team (CRT), which is part of the Community Outreach and Problem Solving Division (COPS), was made aware of numerous heroin overdoses that had taken place around the City of Kalamazoo in the matter of just a couple hours.
Collectively, the CRT and the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety’s Operations Division identified the individual responsible for the delivery of heroin as well as the residence that was being utilized to distribute heroin to the citizens of Kalamazoo. Based on the investigation, a search warrant was drafted and signed by the 8th District Court.
At approximately 5:25 p.m., the CRT, with the assistance of the Operations Division, executed the search warrant in the 900-block of N Church St. Two individuals were located inside the residence and detained. A search of the residence revealed heroin packaged for sale, a digital scale, additional packaging material and other corroborating evidence regarding the intent to distribute narcotics.
A 42-year-old male, as well as a 35-year-old female, both Kalamazoo residents, were arrested for the possession with intent to deliver heroin. Both were lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail.
Since the execution of this search warrant, there have been no additional calls for service regarding heroin overdoses in the City of Kalamazoo. Citizens should be mindful that these substances can be and are often laced with additional harmful chemicals or substances which can cause an uptick in overdoses and even death.
