Kalamazoo, MI:
On Saturday, October 27th, 2018 at 1:07 pm, Kalamazoo Public Safety officers responded to a personal injury accident on N Drake Road, just south of W Main St. Officers found that a motorcycle and sedan had collided near the entrance of a local business. There was a child passenger on the motorcycle who was ejected off the motorcycle and thrown approximately 15 feet during the collision. The 8 year old male had been wearing a helmet and was alert and conscious on scene, however was transported to Bronson Hospital for a thorough medical evaluation. KDPS officers assisted with patient care, scene security and traffic control. The accident is under investigation by the Michigan State Police. A preliminary investigation found that the operator of the motorcycle did not have a valid driver’s license or cycle endorsement. Kalamazoo Public Safety would like to remind motorists of the benefits of wearing helmets when operating or riding on motorcycles as they can greatly decrease the risk of significant injuries in a collision.
