Man arrested after attacking 14 year old

On October 4th, 2018, at approximately 4:10 p.m., officers from the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety responded to the 1400 block of N Westnedge Ave in reference to an assault on a 14 year old. The 36 year old assailant, who was an acquaintance of the juvenile’s family, had been chatting with the juvenile through social media. Those messages appeared to have been of inappropriate nature. Witnesses saw the suspect waiting in a vehicle near the scene of the attack shortly before the incident. The suspect was then seen exiting his vehicle and running towards the juvenile with the intent to commit an assault. The family of the victim was able to intervene in the attack and stop the assault. The suspect was arrested by police shortly after the incident and is currently lodged at Kalamazoo County Jail on charges of home invasion and assault with intent to commit criminal sexual conduct. The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety would like to encourage parents to speak to your children about the dangers of online predators.

Anyone having information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety at 337-8994 or Silent Observer at 343-2100

By authority of: Sgt. Larison Stuglik
