Commercial Truck Fire
Kalamazoo, MI
On Sunday, September 23, 2018 at 12:25 p.m., Kalamazoo Public Safety officers responded to a report of a truck fire in the parking lot of a local business in the 4200 block of Davis Creek Court. Upon arrival, Public Safety officers located a commercial box style truck that had flames shooting out of the cargo area. An initial attack team was able to contain the fire, but extinguishing efforts were hampered by some flammable chemicals that were stored in the truck. KDPS officers used a combination of water and specialized extinguishers to put out the blaze. During a subsequent investigation, one of the employees advised officers that they were refueling a power washer when an explosion occurred which then started the fire. The employee suffered from serious, but non-life threatening injuries from the explosion. He sought medical treatment at a local hospital. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Fire Marshal.
