PRESS RELEASE

Kalamazoo, MI

Multi-Jurisdiction Home Invasion Investigation

On July 17, 2018, at approximately 2:14 p.m., the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety was dispatched to the 2300 Block of Crest Avenue in reference to a home invasion which had just occurred. The homeowner arrived at her residence and found an unknown subject inside her house. The suspect fled on foot and the homeowner called 911. While investigating this incident, officers found a subject whom matched the suspect description in the area. Officers attempted to make contact with the suspect; however, the suspect fled on foot. During this time, the suspect broke into an occupied house in the 2400 Block of Amherst. While inside the residence, the suspect took a set of vehicle keys, ran back outside, and stole a motor vehicle parked in the driveway. Simultaneously, officers were on foot looking for the fleeing suspect. Officers in the area observed the vehicle drive recklessly from the address. The victim, whose vehicle was just stolen, flagged down an officer and advised of what had just occurred. Based on this information, officers focused their attention on the stolen vehicle, which was now linked to both home invasion incidents. During the course of the investigation, officers were able to collect evidence which developed suspect information.

The suspect continued a crime spree outside the City of Kalamazoo and was eventually located and arrested by the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Department and the Michigan State Police. All agencies involved in this incident are currently working together to complete this investigation.

Anyone having information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety at 337-8994 or Silent Observer at 343-2100

By authority of: Sgt. Moran
