KDPS Responds to Two Structure Fires

June 24, 2018 by Danielle Guilds

Kalamazoo, MI:

On Sunday, June 24th, 2018 around 1:50 am, Kalamazoo Public Safety officers responded to the 600 block of Lake St regarding a working structure fire. Upon arrival, officers found that the residence was condemned and had been previously boarded up. There were flames and smoke visible from the front of the residence. Fire suppression efforts were started and the fire brought under control within an hour. The fire is being investigated as suspicious at this time.

Just as officers were clearing the Lake St fire, reports of a second structure fire came in at 3:22 am in the 600 block of Mabel St. Upon arrival, officers found that this residence was also vacant. Heavy smoke and flames could be seen from the rear of the residence. Fire suppression efforts were started and the fire brought under control in just over an hour. There were no injuries reported in either fire. Both fires are being investigated by the Fire Marshal.

Public Safety encourages anyone with information regarding this investigation to contact the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety at 337-8994, Silent Observer at 343-2100 or report online at www.kalamazoosilentobserver.com.
