Residential Fire on Myers Street

April 23, 2018 by Michael Skurski

Kalamazoo, MI: On Sunday April 22, 2018, at approximately 9:15 p.m., Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers were dispatched to the 800-block of Myers St. for a report of a house on fire with smoke and fire showing.

When firefighters arrived on scene, they found smoke and fire coming from the north side of the structure. A resident who appeared to be having difficulty breathing was located outside the residence. Firefighters were able to confirm that no other occupants were inside. The fire was brought under control in less than an hour. The resident was treated by paramedics and released at the scene.

The fire was investigated by the Fire Marshal’s Office, and a suspect was subsequently arrested for arson of a dwelling.

Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety strongly urges everyone to have a working fire extinguisher in your home as well as having working smoke detectors on each level of your home.

Anyone who may have information regarding this investigation is asked to call Kalamazoo Public Safety at 337-8994 or Silent Observer at 343-2100 or www.kalamazoosilentobserver.com.
