On Monday, March 12th, 2018 around 08:30 pm, Kalamazoo Public Safety officers assisted the Absconder Recovery Unit (ARU) from the Michigan Department of Corrections with efforts to arrest a subject wanted on an outstanding warrant believed to be in the Kalamazoo area. During the joint operation, a traffic stop was initiated on a vehicle in the 300 block of W Paterson.
During the traffic stop, the passenger in the vehicle attempted to flee on foot when officers made contact. Officers were able to take the suspect into custody after a brief struggle. During the physical altercation, the suspect dropped a loaded revolver. The revolver was recovered by officers and found to have been reported stolen out of the Kalamazoo area in 2017.
The suspect was identified as a 37 year old male. He was lodged at the Kalamazoo County jail for charges of carrying a concealed weapon, felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a stolen firearm, resisting and obstruction, and possession of marijuana.
