Kalamazoo, MI:
On Friday, March 9th, 2018 around 01:00 am, Kalamazoo Public Safety officers responded to the intersection of Washington Ave and Race St for a report of a vehicle that had struck a tree. Witnesses of the accident advised dispatch that two subjects had fled from the vehicle directly after the accident. Officers responded and found that the vehicle was unoccupied.
Upon further investigation, KDPS officers learned that the vehicle had been recently stolen from an apartment complex in the 2000 block of Gull Rd. PSO Scott Brooks with his K9 partner Bodi tracked from the vehicle in an attempt to locate the occupants. The driver, a 16 year old male, was located during the K9 track several blocks away. He was arrested for charges of motor vehicle theft, possession of marijuana, and leaving the scene of an accident. He was lodged at the Kalamazoo County Juvenile Home. A 14 year old passenger in the vehicle was also located during the K9 track and was arrested for a valid apprehend and detain (A&D) order. He was also lodged at the Kalamazoo County Juvenile Home.
