Kalamazoo, MI:
On Sunday, December 31st, 2017 around 4:00 am, Kalamazoo Public Safety officers responded to the 2100 block of Luella Street on a 9-1-1 call requesting police assistance. Upon arrival on scene, officers found that the caller had just been the victim of a home invasion. The suspect was believed to have fled into a nearby home, also in the 2100 block of Luella Street. Officers surrounded the suspect house and attempted to call-out the suspect to take him into custody. Public Safety officers, with the assistance of the Kalamazoo Metro SWAT team and negotiators, were able to make phone contact with the suspect in an attempt to de-escalate the situation and take him into custody. After approximately two hours of being on scene, the suspect did surrender and was taken into custody without incident. The suspect was identified as a 25-year old male Kalamazoo resident. The suspect was arrested on charges of Home Invasion and lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail.
