Medical First Responder of the Year

Kalamazoo, MI: The 2017 Medical First Responder (MFR) of the Year award was presented to Public Safety Officer (PSO) Steven Luthy on October 25, 2017 in Traverse City, Michigan. The award was given by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Bureau of EMS, Trauma, and Preparedness. This is the first time this award was presented.

PSO Luthy is a dedicated 16 year veteran of the department and a valued member of the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) Training Division. PSO Luthy provides initial training and continuing education for the men and women of KDPS.

All 218 members of KDPS are MFR trained, which allows them to provide lifesaving care for the residents of and visitors to the City of Kalamazoo. KDPS is authorized to provide MFR services with direction provided by Dr. William Fales and through the Kalamazoo County Medical Control Authority.
