Cessna Airplane Tips Onto Its Nose

July 29, 2017 by Kalamazoo Public Safety

Kalamazoo, MI: On Saturday, July 29, 2017 at approximately 12:50 P.M., Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers were dispatched to the Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport for an incident with a small aircraft after it landed. A single engine Cessna 140 landed safely at the airport and was taxiing off the runway when the strong winds lifted the tail of the light plane and tipped the plane onto it’s nose. Airport fire apparatus and the Kalamazoo Dept. of Public Safety immediately responded to the incident.

The pilot, who was the only person on board the plane, was uninjured. The Cessna 140 did sustain minor damage when it tipped forward.

The airport was closed to airline traffic for a short time while the incident was investigated. The Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport opened again to normal activities after the airplane was removed.
