Portage St Homicide Investigation

Update: The victim from this incident has been identified as Kalamazoo resident, Gabriel Juarez-Montanez (31yrs). This incident is still under investigation. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety at 269-337-8994 or Silent Observer at 269-343-2100.


On July 25, 2017, at approximately 02:05 A.M., Kalamazoo Public Safety responded to the 1300 block of Portage St. regarding a shooting. Upon arrival officers found a 31 year old male Kalamazoo resident in the parking lot behind the Edison House Apartments suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to Bronson Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Witnesses at the scene reported seeing one or two suspects fleeing the scene on foot. The circumstances surrounding the shooting are still under investigation. No arrests have been made.
