Traffic Stop Leads To The Recovery Of A Stolen Handgun.

On June 26, 2017, at approximately 11:55pm, Kalamazoo Public Safety officers were conducting speed enforcement in the 1400blk of Alamo due to citizen complaints of speeding. Officers conducted a traffic stop on a speeding vehicle. As officers approached the vehicle they could immediately smell marijuana coming from the car. The driver of the vehicle, a 31 year old male from Indiana was asked to exit his vehicle. As officers attempted to detain him for driving without a license he immediately began to fight with officers. After being taken into custody officers searched the suspects’ vehicle. A loaded Taurus .40 caliber semi-auto handgun was located in the vehicle. The firearm was stolen out of Portage PD. A second firearm was located in the trunk.

.

The suspect was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, receiving and concealing stolen property, resisting and obstructing, driving while unlicensed and possession of marijuana.

Anyone have information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety at 337-8994 or Silent Observer at 343-2100
